Not your father’s Mechwarrior
I know I’ve not posted much for news and I’ve neglected to mention the resurgence of FASA’s co-founder and his new company Smith & Tinker. It appears Jordan Weisman has teamed up with Russ Bullock, President of Piranha Games, to get a fresh perspective upon the MechWarrior franchise. I can’t even tell you how excited and apprehensive I feel about seeing the video trailers at IGN.com.
Most everyone here with the Community Project have been so disappointed with cartoony MW4 mechs and the arcade style of MechAssault. Although the work MekTek has done over the past decade has been very impressive and thoughtful… MW4 just never measured up to all the nuances and details MW3 possessed. Will this reinvented MechWarrior game have the look and feel in any degree of MW3? The Q&A session with Weisman and Bullock over at IGN.com specifically answers that question in detail.

You can also view the game trailer which is said to be created using the Unreal 3 Engine meaning it’s NOT a CG animation depicting “MechWarrior”.

About freakin’ time….. The engines for real MechWarrior game have been around for a while now. I have mixed feelings about the UT3 engine. It will be less resource intensive for those with older cards and allow easier modding but it lends itself to easier cheating.
I have high hopes for this MechWarrior. If the game is anything like what was presented in the trailer, then this game will rock.
Anything is better than nothing. Can’t wait to get my hands on the new Mechwarrior, (if it comes out).
I wonder if all the whingers will return?
Hope so!
