Open Letter to the Developers and Licensees/Licensors of MW3/PM
Home
To: Jordan Weisman, Brian Soderberg, Jim Bosler, Rob Sears, Mike Mancuso, the Copyright holders and Licensees:

The Mechwarrior 3 Community Project, www.mechwarrior3.org, was founded by fans of the game who loved the game and found no satisfaction with the subsequent offerings in the franchise such as Mechwarrior 4, and Mercs, and certainly not the Xbox versions of Mechwarrior. We didn't want to see MW3 die the slow death that eventually overtook it, so we organized ourselves into a group that has provided any and all support for the game since 2002. We represent the players who were there at the beginning when the Zone was young, all the players that stuck it out as the game lost it's popularity to the other versions of Mechwarrior, and all the newcomers to the game past and present. We've been the hub of all things MW3 for almost 6 years now, and we've done it and will continue to do it solely out of love for the game and for no monetary gain whatsoever. Do a google search for MW3 and MW3.org will be number one on the search results.

If you've looked over this site, then you know what's going on. I'll cut to the chase: we're modding the game. Our hope is that since the game is now pretty much extinct as far as marketing is concerned then there will be no opposition, especially given that our intentions are for what's best for the game and its fanbase, and that the game is becoming more and more obsolete and incompatable with new OS and other software as each year passes. We will take no money for any modding efforts at any time now or in the future (unless of course we become licensed to do so) and we will make no utility or mod that does not require previous ownership of a MW3 or PM CD.

We all feel that MW3 and Pirate's Moon had the best "look" and "feel" of all the Mechwarrior franchise PC/video games past and present, and we wish to take it and further its development and improve upon it, and make it "new". Thus far we haven't been capable of accomplishing the ultimate in these endeavors, but we continue forward nevertheless.

If it's permissible we'd like some help. If it's possible we'd like to be licensed with the copyrights. Obtaining the source code is our pipedream. Establishing some kind of relationship/communication is our reasonable hope. Perhaps some kind of a deal could be struck that would benefit the fanbase and squeeze a little more profit out of this dead game for the present licensees. We are already doing the modding work free of charge, perhaps an agreement between mech3.org and the liscensees could be made that gives us the utilities/tools we need to properly accomplish well done mods and in exchange we could host the infogrammes download of mw3 and pirate's moon for free and give Sony the proceeds. All modding could then be linked to ownership of a liscensed copy of the games from infogrammes. Sure it might not be such a good deal for people who still own their original cd's, so maybe there's a better alternative. Perhaps Sony could come out with a new version of mw3 and PM that has better multiplayer code, and leaves the rest of the modding to us, making it worth buying a new copy. The point is we're dying to keep the game going through our modding efforts, and we'd really like it all to be done with as much professionalism and polish as we can. New players come to our main site all the time....used copies of the games still sell on Ebay and Amazon. The years of support from mw3.org have no doubt helped the continued popularity, and our modding efforts will do so for a fresh version of mw3 and pirate's moon.

Please browse this site and learn about our hopes and plans for the game, and come to understand our intentions and contact us soon. Thanks again for stopping by.

Sincerely,
Dan Strout a.k.a. AncientxFreako
